Handicap Finals, Saturday 10 September

Saturday saw our annual finals day for the Handicap tournament. Unfortunately,  due to personal circumstances, the men’s doubles match could not take place, but the day was a fantastic one nevertheless.

We are delighted to have two new singles champions, three junior members amongst our champions, and a number of finalists that have never got to a final’s day before. It just shows that it really is a tournament that anyone can win!

A huge congratulations to our 2022 champions:

Ladies Singles:   Karen Watson (-15/0) defeated Louise Whyte (0/+15) 10-0

Mens’ Singles: Euan Waite (-30) defeated Francis Fernandes (-30) 10-7

Ladies Doubles: Susie and Hannah Taylor (-30) defeated Magda D’Ingeo and Elaine Hargreaves (-30) 10-8

Men’s Doubles: Phil and William Elson (0/+15) defeated Simon Foster and Tim Davies (-40/-30) (w/o)

Mixed Doubles: Lucy and Duncan Hamilton (-40/-30) defeated Francis Fernandes and Emily Man (-15/0) 10-4

We must say a huge thank you to everyone who made the day so successful: To Tim, Hilary, Hugh, Marcus and Graham for being wonderful umpires; to Jackie, Kelly and Bill who ran the delicious BBQ afterwards; to Catherine for arranging for the grass courts to get cut and the lines drawn fresh for the finals (even though we didn’t use the grass courts in the end); to Paul B (our fabulous President) and Tim for awarding the trophies to the finalists; and of course to Tim for organising the whole tournament and draw, a massive job and one very much appreciated.
